What Devices Are Not Supported for ScreenCloud?

by Santino

This article will go through what devices are not supported or recommended for ScreenCloud. To review the devices that ScreenCloud is able to support, you can visit https://screencloud.com/hardware

Table of Contents:

The Chromecast with Google TV released in 2020 is the only supported device for digital signage as it runs a full version of Google TV powered by an Android TV operating system, which previous Chromecast devices do not have.

The Chromecast generation 1, 2, and 3 are no longer officially supported devices for digital signage, and this also includes the Chromecast Ultra. The devices are not powerful enough performers for long-term signage use and have a number of limitations.

Additionally, Google has recently pushed out an update that prevents Chrome from playing back video and audio files when the playback volume is not muted. This happens if your chrome device has been updated to Chrome version 66 and up. There is currently not a method on the Chromecast devices to change the auto-policy, so you might experience muted videos on your device. Recent software updates for Chrome OS have also caused conflicts with the ScreenCloud app performing well on these devices.

We usually recommend you explore other robust options that have more RAM and features at https://screencloud.com/hardware. You can choose from a variety of our officially supported hardware options

Raspberry Pi

We are currently not compatible with Raspberry PI at this moment in time. However, this is something that we are looking to develop for the future.

Apple TV

We do not support Apple TV as we need full HTML5 support which is restricted by Apple at the moment. We believe this will change in the future and at that point, we will be able to add it.

Unfortunately, this is not possible as Roku runs its own OS which isn't compatible with Android. Also, we don't have a player for the platform as there is currently no way to render html5 using a modern browser engine.

Samsung Tizen OS

We are currently not compatible with Samsung Tizen OS smart TV devices at this moment in time. However, this is something that we are looking to develop for the future.
