What is the Dashboards "Manage Session / Refresh Rate" configuration?

by James Donaghy

When you have finished recording your Dashboard journey, Step 1 in your actions panel is titled "Manage Session" and will look like this.

Please note, the Refresh Rate does not directly configure how often a Dashboard will update. If your Dashboard tool updates automatically then we will update your dashboards in 'close to' real time, roughly every 5 seconds.

The Refresh Rate setting controls the time period during which the Dashboards tool will consider a current browser and/or user session to be active. Once this time period has elapsed, the Dashboards service will end the current session and re-run all the steps in the journey, including the login steps (if any), to ensure that a new session is created with the data provider site, at which point the service can resume taking snapshots.

The Refresh Rate will default to 10 minutes and this should be fine in most cases. However a lower Refresh rate of say, 5 minutes or less, may be required when:

  1. Your Dashboard tool has a session timeout of less than 10 minutes and we need to re run the login steps to ensure your dashboard stays logged in.
  2. Your dashboard tool updates frequently but it does not automatically refresh an already loaded page.

Setting a low Refresh Rate is only advisable when your journey steps are very simple. If you are unsure about configuration of your Refresh Rate, please contact our support team who will be happy to advise.
